One of the most amazing events to happen upon planet earth was the descent of God to come from behind the veil of eternity and move into a tent of human flesh. This divine composite of God in flesh was none other than Jesus the Christ. This flight from heaven to earth being signified by a bright shinning star, was the turning point of all creation. That bouncing baby boy, born in a manger; wrapped in swaddling clothes was the God of all creation infiltrating the prison of time taking on the form of one of us.

Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of
flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of
the same; that through death he might destroy him that
had the power of death, that is, the devil;

Hebrews 2:14

In ancient hebraic culture, an inheritance could only be restored by one next of kin. This one relative that was able to restore the inheritance is known as the kinsman redeemer.  The record of Ruth and Boaz teaches the value of having a kinsman redeemer. The fact that Ruth’s husband was dead, meant the possibility of losing what property or resources that would sustain the family. Typically in such a situation, a brother of the dead husband would marry her to keep his name alive for his family’s sake. This is partially how a redemption of property occurred to restore what was lost. This particular brother was next of kin and had first chance to re-establish the name of his brother. Naomi the mother in law of Ruth, advised her concerning how to serve and humble herself to find opportunity with Boaz. Boaz was rich, he own land, he was well known and respected, but more importantly he was in the lineage of Ruth’s dead husband. He was a kinsman.

What we celebrate as Christmas, in truth is all about God coming in flesh to kin himself to the entire human race. Although Jesus did not get his flesh from Mary, he took on the likeness of sinful flesh.
